Research and professional interests

Dr. LaPrade’s research focuses on courts, sentencing, and cybercrime. She founded the Missouri State Mock Trial team and currently serves as head coach. She also serves as the school’s pre-law advisor and faculty advisor of Phi Alpha Delta, the university’s co-ed pre-law honors fraternity. Additionally, Dr. LaPrade is director of the Criminal Courts Undergraduate Certificate and leads students in volunteer work with the Midwest Innocence Project. She serves on the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning Advisory Council and is a candidate to join the Board of Directors of the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) in 2026. Prior to entering academia, Dr. LaPrade was a journalist where she covered crime, courts, and government issues.
