The faculty in the criminology program are committed to helping you plan and schedule your courses to successfully fulfill University requirements and to achieve your academic and career goals. To ensure that you are on-track with your studies, plan to meet with your academic advisor at least once a semester.

Advising Appointment Expectations

To declare your major as Criminology & Criminal Justice you can contact the Academic Advisement Center, University Hall 109 or call 417-836-5517.  If you are an officially declared Criminology major and don't have and advisor assigned to you, please email Mandi Muse at with your M# to get one assigned.

If you have completed fewer than 75 earned credit hours not including currently enrolled hours, you are required to speak with your advisor to register for classes.

If you are pursuing the certificate in Conservation Law Enforcement, contact Dr. Michael Suttmoeller, the certificate advisor, at 417-836-3139 or to schedule an advising appointment.

Graduate advising

If you are pursuing a Master of Science in Criminology or the MPS Criminal Justice option, contact Dr. Aida Hass at 417-836-4890 or to schedule an advising appointment. Graduate students are required to receive advisor release prior to registering for classes.

If you are pursuing the certificate in homeland security and defense, contact Dr. Bernard McCarthy, the certificate advisor, at 417-836-6679 or to schedule an advising appointment.
