Admission and Program Requirements

Coursework requirements

The Master of Professional Studies program is a 33-hour program, with 21 hours of core coursework and 12 hours in a specific option. All of the courses offered in this program are available online.

Before you finish 14 hours in your graduate degree, you must submit to the Graduate College an advisor-approved program of study outlining the courses you plan to take to complete your degree.

Criminal justice option required courses

  • CRM 710 Justice Administration (3 hours)
  • CRM 740 Foundations of Homeland Security (3 hours)
  • CRM 750 Law Enforcement and Community (3 hours)
  • CRM 770 Correctional Theory and Practice (3 hours)

Completion requirements

To fulfill the research requirement for the MPS program, you must submit a paper or project completed in one of your four option area courses that demonstrates the mastery of a research method relevant to your degree.

All MPS students must also pass a comprehensive examination during the semester you intend to graduate. Questions for the comprehensive exam will come from all four of the courses in your option area.
