Dr. Brett Garland

Brett Garland is a native of southern Indiana and received his Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2007. His research interests include correctional management and staff, offender reentry, gangs, hate crime, and terrorism. Brett is currently studying prisoner reentry in southwestern Missouri by examining the perceptions of parolees, agency representatives, and the general public. His publications can be found in The Prison Journal, the Journal of Offender Rehabilitation, Policing: An International Journal of Police Strategies and Management, and Corrections Today. Dr. Garland’s professional experience consists of three years as a program coordinator specializing in reentry services with the Indiana Department of Correction and one year as a social worker in a juvenile group home.
