The
Comprehensive Criminology Major,
Bachelor of Arts
a Comprehensive Major (46 hours, no minor required)
Important Note: The comprehensive CRM major is being phased out and replaced with the new non-comprehensive CRM major. Read on . . .
Students currently admitted to the comprehensive, 46-credit-hour Criminology major may continue with that form of the Criminology major or switch to the new non-comprehensive Criminology major. Students interested in switching to the new major are encouraged to meet with their CRM advisor at their earliest convenience to discuss this matter.
Students interested in majoring in Criminology who have not been admitted to or who have not declared Criminology as their major will NOT be admitted to the old comprehensive CRM major (46 hours). Instead, they will declare or be admitted to the new non-comprehensive CRM major - and we're looking forward to seeing you in our classes! Students with a DG or DX encumbrance the department will give you a pass for pre-registration in the spring for the summer and fall semesters. The department's hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mondays through Fridays in Strong Hall 458. The phone number is 417-836-5640.
The following is only a SUGGESTED plan for scheduling one's courses over a four-year period at Missouri State University. At the conclusion of this plan the student would have taken all the courses needed to satisfy the MSU General Education Requirement and a Criminology Major with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree.
Notes: This is only a suggested plan and it represents the minimum number of hours needed to graduate (125). Your needs may require one or more revisions. Please meet with your CRM advisor to discuss your scheduling plans.
You may also want to use the "Free Electives" for an academic minor or another major. In the chart below, there are 12 hours of "Free Electives." It is possible that, with courses already taken for the CRM major and the Bachelor of Arts, the 12 hours of free electives could be converted into an academic minor in another field of study.
For your information, CRM majors only need three more hours of SOC to obtain a SOC minor. That 3-hour course is usually SOC 325. Nine additional hours of SOC (12 additional hours in all) would provide the CRM major with a dual major in Sociology.
There are several one (1) credit-hour CRM courses you may take to bring the total number of CRM hours to the needed level. None of those one-hour (typically intersession) courses are indicated here but three may be taken and substitute for the 3-credit-hour courses shown below.
Finally, the numbers in parentheses indicate the number of credit hours for each course.
