M.S. in Criminology Admission Requirements

Missouri State University Library Scene.Admission to the program requires a bachelor's degree in sociology, criminology, or criminal justice from a college or university accredited by agencies recognized by Missouri State University; AND
  • a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; OR
  • at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale for the last 60 hours of academic course work; OR
  • a score of 475 or higher on either the verbal or quantitative section of the Graduate Records Exam (GRE) AND a score of not less than 400 on the other section.
If a student holds a bachelor's degree in sociology, criminology, or criminal justice from a college or university not accredited by an agency recognized by Missouri State University, he or she must have
  • a 3.0 overall GPA on a 4.0 scale; OR
  • a 3.0 overall GPA on a 4.0 scale for the last 60 hours of academic work; OR
  • a GRE score of at least 485 on either the verbal or quantitative section AND a score of not less than 400 on the other section.
Dr. Hass teaching a class.Students without a bachelor's degree in sociology, criminology, or criminal justice may be admitted to the program if they meet the GPA and GRE requirements stated above.  However, they may be required to take up to fifteen hours of undergraduate coursework, at the discretion of the Graduate Program Coordinator.  The requirement for undergraduate coursework may be waived by the Graduate Program Coordinator based on equivalent coursework, professional education, and/or work experience in the criminal justice system.
