Admission Requirements

How to apply

The homeland security and defense certificate is offered as both a stand-alone certificate program and as an addition to a graduate program. For some programs, the same courses could apply to both this certificate and another master's degree program.

Admission criteria

To be considered for the program, a student must have a 2.75 grade point average and be admitted to the Graduate College. Students who do not meet this criterion, but demonstrate potential for success through career experience, may be admitted at the discretion of the Certificate Advisor and with the approval of the Dean of the Graduate College. Admission to this certificate program does not constitute admission to any other Missouri State University graduate program.

New students pursuing the homeland security and defense certificate

If you are a new student pursuing only the graduate certificate program, follow the below steps to be successfully admitted into the program:

  1. Submit a Graduate College application. A $35 application fee is required.
  2. Gain admittance into the Graduate College.
  3. Meet with Dr. Bernard McCarthy to complete a plan of study to submit to the Graduate College.

If you do not meet the required GPA or are not accepted into the Graduate College, you may be admitted based on your potential for success through career experience at the discretion of the certificate adviser and the dean of the Graduate College.
